Improving Table Views

Sometimes a table view can have very crowded column headers, especially when the field names are considerably longer than the data that the fields hold. Even if you specify a column width in the view editor, by default the system won’t expand the column past the width of the longest data point, resulting in something like the following example from Contracts:

Having the column headers in multiple rows reduces the number of records that will fit on a page, and can be visually unappealing. A simple change to the field name can make a big difference. Simply replace the spaces in the field name with “&nbsp”, a non-breaking space that the system will respect. So in place of this for the Annual Contract Amount field:
